The Dundee Area Youth Center has received a $5,000 grant from the Tripp Foundation Inc. to help in the creation of an athletic/dance space.  The Tripp Foundation Inc. is located out of Elmira with several local ties.

The idea came to Executive Director, Beth A. Taylor when a group of youth came to her stating that, “We wish we had a place to play basketball.”

The space being renovated is located above the youth center, on 15 Main Street, Dundee.  Years ago a section of it was a racquetball court, used by many local residents.

“Our goal is to have our youth involved in more physical activity such as basketball, volleyball, dance, and martial arts.  We are working on the logistics so that the space would also be available to rent to the public,” says Taylor.

The Dundee Area Youth Center is a non-profit organization with a small budget.  The center is asking for volunteers to sign up and help with the renovation.  “Working Bees” began on Aug. 18 and continue until the work at task has been completed.

A list of job details is available by calling the youth center at 607-243-9171, Tuesdays through Thursdays, between 1  and 5 p.m.  You can also email Beth Taylor at bethtayloryouthdirector@yahoo.com.

The Youth?Center is asking for financial support in addition to what the Tripp Foundation Inc. has granted us.  Along with Knapp and Schlappi, located in Penn Yan and Dundee, we have begun our ‘Buy a Board’ campaign,” says Taylor

Donations of $30 for a board can be made directly to Knapp and Schlappi or by mailing it to, The Dundee Area Youth Center, Inc., PO Box 136, Dundee, NY  14837.

Any and all help, whether it be with the physical labor or financial support towards renovation and equipment is welcome.
