Dig Into Writing

Dig Into Writing, held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at Penn Yan Public Library, will inspire kids to write on their own, building their communication skills as they explore the written word through hands-on activities like creating maps, writing letters, drawing cartoons, and making their own books. This free program is for kids ages 7 to 12 years and no registration is required. Penn Yan Public Library, 214 Main Street, 315-536-6114.

Dino Dig

Dino Dig is a hands-on introduction to geology and dinosaurs presented by real field paleontologists from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7. The world of geology, rocks, and minerals will be covered during this free, fun-filled program. Kids will also get to meet Mr. Nixon, an 8-foot Triceratops skull discovered by the presenters in 1996, and see an Albertosaurus skull as they learn about the differences between carnivores and herbivores. Original music, songs, show and tell with rare fossils, a touch of magic, and the "Dinosaur Game Show" will round out the program. Penn Yan Public Library, 214 Main St., 315-536-6114.

Habitat for Humanity

The monthly meeting for Yates County Habitat for Humanity will be held Wednesday Aug. 7 at the First Baptist Church of Penn Yan on Main St. beginning at 7:30 p.m.
