Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike reports that 99 people dropped off 200 lbs. of prescription medications when his office participated with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in the prescription drug take-back event. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26 officers collected expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction.

All drugs collected were taken at the end of the event by the DEA to Buffalo for immediate destruction.

“Our goal is to prevent increased pill abuse, misuse and theft, while addressing vital issues of public safety, public health, and looking out for the environment, so this partnership with the DEA was important,” said Spike.
