The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for a wide area of New York State, including the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier.

Heavy snow will accumulate 6 to 10 inches. A wintery mix of light snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain will be possible this afternoon. For most of the afternoon mainly rain is expected in the valleys. As colder air moves in tonight the wintery mix will change to all snow and continue through Monday evening. The heaviest snow will fall from later tonight through Monday evening.

Temperatures will generally be in the 20s, but rising into the lower to mid-30s this afternoon.

Winds will be northeast 5 to 10 mph. Expect dangerous travel conditions from snow and ice covered slippery roads.

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Please report snowfall and/or ice amounts to the National Weather Service by calling 888-603-1402 or email BGM.stormreport@NOAA.gov.
