Dresden mayor, trustee to run
Dresden Mayor Bill Hall and appointed Village Trustee Steve Venturino are coming up for election in March. Venturino was appointed by Hall to complete the term of Mike Snyder, who resigned to spend more of the year in a warmer climate. Venturino is retired from the Geneva Police Dept. and has resided in the village for five years.
The only other trustee seat is held by Colleen Riviello, appointed by Hall to replace Ron Merritt, who resigned to spend more time with his family and improving their home. Riviello will be up for election next year. She has been a resident of Dresden for 10 years.
Other action by the Dresden Board of Trustees at their Feb. 4 meeting:
• Fire Dept.: Approved Jason Rivera as a new volunteer fireman. The department needs to replace one firefighter’s bunker gear that is now over 10 years old, and tires on one truck that are over 25 years old, both being out out of date by state regulation.
• Dept. of Public Works: Approved the purchase of 10 new water meters. The village must prepare for the purchase of a new dumptruck as the old one is “on its last legs,” according to Hall. He will investigate the use of state highway improvement reimbursement funds to do so.
• Planning and Zoning: The possibility of combining the village’s Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals has been raised to both boards, and the response has been positive.
