The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for patchy freezing rain in an area that includes Yates, Steuben, and Schuyler Counties. The advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. this evening to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Much of the Finger Lakes Region in Central New York is covered by the advisory.

A mixture of light rain and freezing rain will overspread the region this evening between 7 and 10 p.m. resulting in a thin ice coating (less than a tenth of an inch). During the overnight hours and into the early morning Wednesday, some of the higher terrain areas could see occasional freezing rain. In the more urbanized valley locations, above freezing temperatures and light rain are foreseen.

Winds will be southeast 5 to 10 mph and temperatures in the low to mid 30s.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for

slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while

driving.
