Dancers from the Allegany River Indian Dancers will perform at Seneca Heritage Day Sept. 3.

Seneca Heritage Day will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Overackers Corner School House located on Route 364 and North Vine Valley Road, Middlesex.

This year’s theme will be “Songs of the Earth” and will include singers and dancers from the Allegany River Indian Dancers. The Native American group showcases the traditional songs and dances of the Iroquois. The performance incorporates many aspects of Native American culture, including program narratives about the Seneca language and culture pertaining to the origin of the songs.

All performers will wear traditional Native American regalia and all the music is performed live. Admission to the event is free; there will be pie for sale and free ice cream. This program precedes the annual tradition of the bonfire at the top of Bare HlIl and signaling the start of the Ring of Fire around Canandaigua Lake.

Bring family and friends to enjoy a celebration of the continuing awareness of our Middlesex Heritage.
