Triathletes prepare for the start of the 2017 Peasantman Steel Distance Triathlon.

The 2017 Peasantman Steel Distance Triathlon was held Aug. 20, based at Indian Pines Park on Keuka Lake.

Dave Bradshaw of Palmyra won the full distance triathlon in 10:36.08, swimming 2.4 miles in 1:04:32; bicycling 116 miles in 5:47:28 and running 26.2 miles in 3:39:31. The second place finisher, Keith Botner of Bethlehem, Pa. crossed the finish line almost an hour after Bradshaw.

Bradshaw's time was also the fastest on record since the 2013 event. The previous fastest finish was 11:24:51 in 2014.

Twenty-five athletes started the full distance event and 22 finished. In all, 172 athletes and relay teams competed in different events.

The Penn Yan Peasantman Triathlon, which premiered in 2013 is the original Steel Distance Triathlon, with distances that are slightly longer than those of traditional triathlons.
