Barrington residents John Sensenig and his son, Wayne Sensenig, have withdrawn their applications for special use permits for two businesses: an existing dog breeding business and establishment of a retail puppy sales business in a private residence.

The Sensenigs were scheduled to meet with the Barrington Town Zoning Board of Appeals Nov. 14, but withdrew their applications earlier in the day. Their applications had been reviewed by the Yates County Planning Board which determined the businesses had no county-wide impact.

The Barrington Planning Board had recommended the Zoning Board of Appeals approve John Sensenig’s application subject to conditions. John Sensenig is a licensed pet dealer.

The Sensenig’s decision to withdraw the applications came after multiple members of the public raised concerns about the treatment of dogs in breeding facilities, and about John Sensenig's previous business dealings in Pennsylvania.
