Rod Blumenau and the Upstate Dixie Five will salute music from the Prohibition Era at the June 26 opening concert of the Yates Concert Series.

The Yates Concert Series, Inc. is pleased to announce the return of the Summer Concerts on the Courthouse Lawn series for the 2019 season. These events take place Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at the scenic, historical site of the old Yates County Courthouse, located on Main and Court Streets in Penn Yan. The first concert is Wednesday, June 26. Concerts are free and open to the public.

The opening concert features Rod Blumenau and the Upstate Dixie Five who will give the audience the pleasure of listening to traditional jazz and more.

In honor of the infamous USA Constitutional amendment signed exactly 100 years ago, this band will be performing “Music from the Prohibition Era.” In spite of beer and booze being illegal, the 1920s became the “Jazz Age” with groundbreaking music. Rod and the Dixie Five will get toes tapping with songs and anecdotes from this epic period of American history. As they celebrate Prohibition together with their audience, remember that alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the Courthouse lawn, and smoking is not allowed.

Special sponsors for this concert are Lyons National Bank and Mark & Deborah Malcolm.

Bring your own lawn chair, and in case of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the neighboring Baptist Church. Stop by before the concert begins at the Baptist Church’s hotdog and hamburger stand. Intermission refreshments will be provided by the Literacy Volunteers. Children’s activities will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the rear of the courtyard. A goodwill offering during intermission will be collected.

Enjoy the beginning of a great concert series. The next concert on July 3 will feature Paul Strowe, the “Human Jukebox” with acoustic favorites.
