Lake to Lake Quilt Guild show set for April 10–11
Lake to Lake Quilt Guild announces that Hawaiian Quilt Artist, Nancy Lee Chong, will be the featured lecturer at the “Spring Into Color”- Hawaiian Style Quilt Show to be held Friday, April 10 and Saturday April 11 at the Geneva Community Center, 160 Carter Road, Geneva. The hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Admission is $6, children under 12 enter free with an adult.
Nancy Lee Chong, former owner of Pacific Rim Quilt Company and renowned for her Hawaiian Applique, will lecture both days. Her lectures are entitled: “Hawaiian Quilting – History, Traditions, Superstitions” and “Confessions of an Applique Addict.”
Learn about the fascinating history of quilts with Eugenia Barnes, quilt appraiser, who will do our bed turning both days. The bed turnings are one of our most popular events and Genie is quite a story - teller. The quilts come to life.
Do you know about the efforts to establish a Finger Lakes Barn Quilt Trail? This organization will present both days. Many of quilters will soon have Quilt Blocks on local area barns throughout the Finger Lakes.
Guild member’s handiworks will be on display showcasing around 200 pieces such as quilts, textile art, or clothing. The Vendor’s Mall will have some different faces and items this year. Pick out a special gift for someone at the Gift Gallery; browse through the books and magazines on sale. Find items to delight everyone, beads, ribbons, thread, fabrics, jewelry, and even kimonos. While you shop, the men in your lives can partake of a cookie or piece of homemade pie in the dining room or TV room. The whole family can eat at the Quilter’s Café.
Guild members participated in three challenges this year: “A Round to It” where quilts must display a circular piece somewhere; The Artist’s Challenge — a quilt based up on a favorite artist; and a mini quilt challenge. Fancy working with pieces that are only ½” to ¾” in some cases.
Special exhibits include Rochester Area Fiber Artists and The Quilter’s Consortium of NY (QCNYS) “Still Crazy” challenge showcasing a beautiful display of crazy quilts. A quilt is not just a bedcover anymore!
The raffle quilt, “Quilter’s Delight,” will be on display with tickets available for purchase. Proceeds this year will benefit our local “Thrive to Survive” organization helping those with cancer.
Worried about parking? Not this year! There will be a free shuttle bus from and to an off -site parking at the Geneva High School to the Quilt Show.
