Penn Yan man charged with domestic assault, child endangerment

Alexander M. Bates, 28, of Penn Yan, was arrested April 24 by Penn Yan Police following an investigation of a domestic incident. 

Police discovered Bates had allegedly been involved in several physical domestic incidents over the last month when he allegedly head-butted a female victim and struck her multiple times, causing bruises and a cut. Bates also allegedly held the woman in their residence against her will, and broke multiple items that did not belong to him. Police found all of these altercations took place in the presence of two children.

After taking statements from the victim, Police responded to the residence and located Bates inside, hiding in the attic crawl space. Police also found Bates in possession of over two ounces of marijuana. Bates was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Police Department for processing, charged with for 3rd degree criminal mischief, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful imprisonment, 3rd degree assault, 2nd degree harassment, and criminal possession of marijuana. 

Bates is currently on N.Y.S. parole, and was also charged on a parole violation warrant. He was taken to the Yates County Jail to await Centralized Arraignment Court.
