Canandaigua man arrested for armed robbery in Penn Yan

Rucianno X. O’Malley, 21, of Woodland Park Circle, Canandaigua, was arrested Oct. 13 by Penn Yan Police after an investigation into an armed robbery and burglary that was reported at a residence on Elm Street where the residents were allegedly held at gunpoint. The suspects stole an unknown amount of marijuana from the residence and fled the scene. Investigation revealed there were children under 17 in the residence at the time of the robbery.

O’Malley was apprehended by State Police and Ontario County Sheriffs Deputies in Canandaigua and detained until Penn Yan could take custody. He was charged with 1st-degree burglary first degree and 1st-degree robbery first degree (class B felonies), 4th-degree conspiracy (a class E felony), endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal facilitation (class A misdemeanors). O’Malley was brought to Yates County Centralized Arraignment Court and was remanded to the county jail in lieu of $50,000 cash/$100,000 bond.

Another male was present during the robbery who has not yet been located at this time. Penn Yan Police are continuing the investigation in cooperation with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
