At her last meeting of the Yates County Legislature, Connie Hayes was presented with a special plaque honoring her service to the county as Clerk of the Legislature for almost 30 years.

PENN YAN — One of the most stalwart figures in the Yates County Legislature's history attended her last regular meeting Monday, Dec. 13, and it would not pass unnoticed.

Connie Hayes has served Yates County for more that 30 years, and has been the Clerk of the Legislature for almost all of that time. Given those decades and the complexity of the work and the personalities she has dealt with on the legislature, it was only right and fitting that she be honored (and surprised) with special recognition.

Legislator Edward Bronson read the inscription on a plaque presented to Hayes:

"With our greatest appreciation we honor Connie Hayes.  We will forever be grateful for years of dedication, knowledge, and guidance to the Legislature, our County Workforce, and our Community.  People will always remember your personality and quick wit.  Your departure will be greatly felt as you are not only a coworker, but a friend to many.  It was an honor and a pleasure working with you.  Happy retirement."

Upon the presentation, Hayes was greeted with a standing ovation.
