YATES COUNTY — Yates County Public Health's COVID-19 update as of Dec. 16: Since its last report, YCPH have received 23 new cases and had 12 more cases recover. Seventeen of the new cases are close contacts of previous positive cases. The new cases reside in the town of Benton (2), Jerusalem (2), Middlesex (1), Milo (10), Potter (2), Starkey (6).

YCPH Director Sara Christensen reported to the legislature Monday, Dec. 13 that the rate of vaccinated people in the county had finally crossed 50% after months stuck in the high 40s. Christensen says the Mennonite population is still largely unvaccinated, yet some have begun to take advantage of the weekly clinics at the former Gordman's in the Lake St. Plaza on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

As of Thursday's report, the total population's vaccination level had risen to 51.5%. The seven-day positivity rate, however, has risen above 10%.
