School budget votes and Board of Ed elections May 17

YATES COUNTY — The annual budget votes and school board elections for the county's three school districts will be held from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17. All school district residents are encouraged to participate.

PENN YAN CENTRAL

Penn Yan's annual budget vote and election of Board of Education members will be held at the Penn Yan Academy gymnasium. Please enter via the Liberty Street parking lot.

Budget

Shall the Board of Education of the Penn Yan Central School District be authorized to expend the sums set forth in the proposed budget for the 2022-2023 school year in the amount of $39,368,931 and to levy the necessary tax therefore?

Other propositions:

  • Purchase and finance four buses at an estimated cost not to exceed $450,000 and levy a tax to pay bonds, notes, and interest required.

Board of Education 

There is one seat available on the Board of Education for a three-year term with four new candidates running: Kelly Christensen, Kenneth Kamholtz, Brian Shriver, and Kenneth Walker.

DUNDEE CENTRAL

Dundee's Board of Education election and budget vote will be held in the Public Meeting Room at the school: 55 Water St., Dundee.

Budget

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Dundee Central School District adopt a proposed budget in the amount of $20,236,136 (increase of 1.4%) for the school year 2022- 2023 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the district.

Other resolutions:

  • Student Fitness Equipment Lease sum not to exceed $64,351 and to levy the necessary tax.
  • Purchase two buses by the use of funds from the 2019 Bus Purchase Reserve Fund in an amount not to exceed $266,000, with no tax levy impact.
  • Enter into a “Contract for Educational Services” with the Dundee Library in the amount of $168,000 (a $5,000 increase) and to levy the necessary tax.

Board of Education

There are three openings on the school board with three candidates on the ballot: incumbent John Frederick and challengers John Antes and Brad Cole.

MARCUS WHITMAN

Marcus Whitman's budget vote and election of Board of Education members will be held at the high school gymnasium: 4100 Baldwin Road, Rushville.

Budget

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Gorham-Middlesex Central School District is hereby authorized to expend the sum of $35,890,670 as a general fund appropriation for the 2022-2023 school year and to levy the necessary tax therefor.

Other resolutions:

  • Purchase one 30 passenger school bus, one 68 passenger school bus, one 56 passenger/wheel chair school bus, and one 36 passenger school bus, at a maximum estimated cost of $458,200 appropriated from the School Bus Replacement Capital Reserve Fund or raised by the levy of a tax.
  • Establish a “School Bus Replacement 2022 Capital Reserve Fund,” not to exceed at total of $3,000,000 with a probable term no longer than 10 years.
  • Levy taxes annually in the amount of: $111,950 (an increase of $360) for the Gorham Free Library; $41,250 (an increase of $808) for the Middlesex Reading Center; and $45,086 (an increase of $1,994) for the Rushville Reading Center.

Board of Education

Three Board of Education seats are available with three candidates on the ballot: Chad Hunt, Ashley Conley, and John Fous.
