Auditions for Summer Production June 15 and 16.

PENN YAN — This summer, the Penn Yan Academy Drama Club and the Penn Yan Theatre Company (PYTCo.) are excited to be working together to co-produce a summer musical production. Directed by PYA Choir and Theatre teacher Jessica Kinsey and PYA English teacher Brian Cobb, "Something Rotten!" will be staged Aug. 5-7 on the Penn Yan Academy stage.

The touring cast of "Something Rotten!" performs a scene from the hit musical.

"Something Rotten! follows the tale of Nick and Nigel Bottom, sibling playwrights in Renaissance London who find themselves trapped in the shadow of the age's number one rockstar - the Bard himself, William Shakespeare. In their quest to make a name for themselves, they visit a soothsayer to divine what the future of theatre looks like. His answer? MUSICALS! Plays where people sing, dance, and act - all at the same time! As the brothers race to try to create the world's first-ever musical, they face challenges from within and without - and have to decide who they really want to be.

Auditions for the summer production are open to all community members grade 7 through adult.

"We are looking forward to working with current students, alumni, community members, staff, friends, family, and any other thespians who decide to come out and audition," says Cobb.  "You do not have to have past experience with either of our programs, or on the stage at all, to audition - We’d love to have you!"

Auditions will be held at PYA on Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16 at 6 p.m. Interested parties will only need to attend one of the auditions. Rehearsals for those who join the cast will begin shortly thereafter.

"We will also be looking for pit orchestra musicians, backstage and tech crew, and other production roles," says Cobb. "If you don't want to be on stage, we'd still love for you to get involved - contact us and let us know. We hope to see you there!"
