PYA '90 grad Nichelle Allen earns Ph.D.

PENN YAN — Congratulations are due to Dr. Nichelle B. Allen, Ed.D., on her Hooding Ceremony at Vanderbilt University's Peabody College of Higher Education Leadership and Policy.

Allen completed the 36-months of online doctoral learning while simultaneously teaching 9th Grade Science and AP Biology at Dansville High School, and teaching as an adjunct professor at SUNY Geneseo. The Hooding of Doctoral Candidates was held May 13 during Vanderbilt University's Peabody College Professional Commencement Ceremony in Nashville, Tenn.

Allen graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1990, and attended the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Col. from 1990-1992, returning home due to a sports injury. In 1995, she received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from SUNY Geneseo, and in 1998, she received her master’s degree in Exercise Kinesiology at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Ky.

Allen played basketball for both the U.S. Air Force Academy and SUNY Geneseo. She resides in Dansville where she has taught at Dansville High School for the past 21 years.
