A pair of coupled 40 foot barges loaded with an excavator and a diesel drive unit sank off Keuka Lake's west shore last week.

T&R Towing of Bath, alongside T&R Spill Response and T&R Rescue Solutions, successfully recovered the two 40'x8' barges and the drive unit, an excavator, and several other pieces of equipment from the bottom of lake.

T&R Rescue Solutions Trainer Kevin Romer said, “This operation went flawlessly, and was completed in 14 hours under the watchful eyes of NYS DEC. Nice work by everyone involved!”

Romer said the site was about 4 miles north of Hammondsport on the west shore. “The cause is undetermined at this point, but most likely weather related; a combination of wind, waves, and rain,” said Romer.
