Prattsburgh man dies in Italy Hill accident

Edward L. Babcock, 65, of 7291 County Rte. 77, Prattsburgh, was killed April 27 after his 2001 Ford pickup truck went off the side of Italy Hill Road, skidded on its left side through a ditch, and rolled three times, coming to rest in a field. Babcock was ejected during the crash.

Yates County Sheriff’s Office reports that passersby found the vehicle shortly after the crash, and alerted 911 at 5:01 p.m.. One person at the scene discovered an oxgen tank with a nasal cannula in the cab of the truck, and placed it on Babcock. Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies, N.Y. State Police, Prattsburgh Fire & Ambulance, Medic 55, and Mercy Flight responded. Deputies assisted with an automatic external defibrillator, and Prattsburgh Ambulance personnel performed CPR with assistance from Medic 55. 

Babcock was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:27 p.m. Family Members were notified by State Troopers and Sheriff’s Deputies. Investigation of the crash is continuing.
