Truck Trailer frame collapses

A semi truck hauling a load of scrap plastic from Penn Yan to Long Island suffered structural failure and collapsed on State Rte. 54 one mile west of Dresden, closing the eastbound lane for several hours Oct. 10.
Yates County Sheriff’s deputies report Driver John L. Connors, 50, of Tobyhanna, Pa., was driving down the hill toward Dresden when he heard a loud bang, and looking in the mirrors, saw sparks coming from the trailer’s undercarriage. Stopping in the lane, he found the trailer’s frame had given way, causing the bottom of the trailer to drag on the pavement.
Dresden Fire Dept. directed traffic around the scene while Heavy Metal Recovery unloaded the cargo onto another trailer, and towed the wreck away. No injuries occurred, and investigation showed the trailer to be within its approved weight capacity.
