DRESDEN — A mother and young daughter are being helped by Red Cross after their Cornelia Street home was heavily damaged by a fire on New Year’s Eve.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which was called in by a next door neighbor.

The house was occupied by Tammy Davis, 27 and her 3-year-old daughter, Kaylee Davis.

Yates County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard L. Simpson reports even with a quick repsonse, the Dresden Fire Department, with mutual aid from Penn Yan, Himrod and Benton Departments, was unable to stop the heavy damage from the fire, smoke and water.

Two fire fighters were injured fighting the fire. Both were transported to Solidiers & Sailor’s Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan, where they were treated and released.

Penn Yan Ambulance assisted at the scene. West Lake Road Fire Department stood by in the Dresden Fire house wiht Hall Fire Department standing by in Benton for both Benton and Penn Yan.
