Driver charged after car hits pole, vehicle and house on Seneca Street

A 17-year-old driver, Kaitlyn McCarthy of 8 Orchard Lane, Penn Yan, was charged with excessive speed following a one-car crash on Dec. 12 at 6:47 p.m.

McCarthy lost control of her vehicle , struck a utility pole, a parked car owned by Maria Thompson and the Thompson house at 149 Seneca St., Penn Yan.

The Penn Yan Police Department, Penn Yan Fire Department and ambulances from Penn Yan and Dundee responded.

There were four passengers in the vehicle: Cassana Banach, 14; Kaitlyn Schiek, 12; Gabriel Hollenbeck, 10 and Tyler Hall, 12. McCarthy and Banach were transported to Strong Hospital by Penn Yan Ambulance. A report received Monday listed both victims as being released from the hospital. The other three passengers were treated at the scene and released.
