Penn Yan man killed, three others injured in Route 364 accident

A Penn Yan man was killed and three others were injured in a two vehicle accident that happened on State Route 364 near the Briggs Road at about 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22.

New York State Police report that Clarence C. Hill, 45, of 210 East Elm St., Penn Yan was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Hill was driving eastbound just west of DeLooza Road when he apparently lost control of his vehicle in the snow and crossed into the other lane.

There, his vehicle struck one driven by Brian Bootes, 33 of  4294 Bootes Road, Middlesex, head-on. Bootes suffered leg injuries. A 3-year-old child and a 5-year-old in the Bootes vehicle were also injured.

The victims were transported to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital and Strong Memorial Hospital.

The Penn Yan Fire Department, Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Yates County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Department of Transportation and New York State Police responded to the scene.

Throughout the day, Yates County deputies and New York?State Police responded to a number of accidents in the area, particularly on Pre-Emption Road and Himrod Road.
