Yates County Sheriff Report for March 11, 2009

Douglas A. Grover Jr, 40, of 1251 East Swamp Road, Penn Yan, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child stemming from a driving while intoxicated arrest on Feb. 26, 2009. He was taken into custody after an arraignment in Potter Town Court and remanded to Yates County Jail  in lieu of $250 cash bail. He will answer the charges in Potter Court.

Matthew M. Stewart, 18, 1309 Shay Road, Naples, was charged with having inadequate stop lamps and aggravated unlicensed operation (AUO)  when he was stopped at 8:58 p.m. March 3 on Italy Valley Road. Deputy Scott Smith reports Stewart was arraigned in the Town of Italy Court and will return to answer the charges.

David Diaz, 24, of 266 State Route 245, Rushville, was charged with third degree criminal mischief March 4 in Rushville. Deputy Chad Betts reports Diaz was arrested on a warrant from the Town of Middlesex Court after he caused damage to the walls of his mother’s apartment. He was arraigned in the Town of Middlesex Court and is being held in Yates County Jail.

Stacie L. Draper, 20, 8418 North Urbana Road, Hammondsport, was charged with harassment in the second degree after she allegedly struck a fellow college student in the head during an altercation. She was issued a criminal summons to appear in Jerusalem Town Court, according to Deputy Patrick Manahan.

David J. Rosas, 22, of Constitution Drive, Rochester, was charged with third degree AUO and speeding on Route 14 in the Town of Torrey on March 5. Deputy Ken Kamholtz reports Rosas’s 2004 Nissan was observed traveling northbound at a high rate of speed near East Leach Road. After the vehicle was stopped, a computer check revealed his driving priveledge was suspended twice: for failing to submit to an out of state court and for failure to appear in court in Monroe County to answer a summons. He was brought before the Town of Torrey Justice, who placed him in jail in lieu of $250 cash bail.

Robin L. Daggett, 41, 3387 Guyanoga Road, Branchport, was charged with third degree AUO, and failure to signal on Guyanoga Road in the Town of Jerusalem on March 5. A license check revealed she had a suspended license. She was arraigned in Jerusalem Town Court and will reappear, according to Deputy Charles Emerson.

Greg Haviland, 27, 4195 Old Route 14, Dundee, was arrested on a warrant issued by Seneca County Family Court after he allegedly failed to attend a court-ordered proceeding in Seneca County. He was turned over to the Seneca County authorities, reports Deputy Ken Kamholtz.

Mildred L. Bates, 66, 626 Oliver Road, Penn Yan, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child on March 6 following an investigation by Yates County Department of Social Services and the Sheriff’s Department into a hotline report of a child with a bruised face. Bates was issued a ticket and will appear later in Torrey Town Court, reports Inv. Patrick Killen.

Michael S. Hess, 33, of 2190 Ray Roberts Road, Watkins Glen, was charged with trespassing at 8 a.m. March 7 at 119 Dundee-Starkey Road. Deputy Scott Smith reports Hess was arrested after he was found in a vehicle belonging to another Town of Starkey man. Hess allegedly entered the vehicle for an unknown amount of time. He was released on an appearance ticket and  is to answer the charges in the Town of Starkey Court.

Robert M. Brown, 49, 853 State Route 54, Penn Yan, was charged with third degree AUO and having inadequate headlamps. Brown was stopped for a traffic infraction on State Route 54A in the Town of Jerusalem. A check of his license revealed he had a suspended license. He was arrested, arraigned in Potter Town Court and remanded to Yates County Jail in lieu of $200. He will answer the charges in Jerusalem Court.

Justin S. Klug, 19, 1669 Route 245, Naples, was charged with two counts of fourth degree criminal mischief, third degree menacing and second degree harassment at 12:30 p.m. on March 8. Deputy Scott Smith reports Klug allegedly ripped another person’s blue jeans while attempting to get a cell phone. He allegedly shoved and grabbed the other party’s hair. When the individual attempted to call 911 for police assistance, Klug allegedly took the telephone and disconnected the call. When the 911 center called the residence Klug informed the individual to tell the 911 operator that everything was fine. During the course of the incident, Klug allegedly made overt threats to cause physical harm to the other party. Klug was arraigned before Town of Middlesex Court and committed to Yates County Jail on $1,000 cash/$2,000 bond to appear at 7 p.m. April 7.

Nicholas M. Calvetti, 24, 5421 State Route 21, Canandaigua, was charged with unlawful imprisonment and harassment at 1:42 p.m. March 8 at 3762 East Sherman Hollow Road in the Town of Jerusalem. Deputy Scott Smith reports Calvetti was arrested after he turned himself in to the Canandaigua City Police Department because of an arrest warrant obtained on March 5 which stemmed from a domestic incident that day. Calvetti allegedly restrained another person and then subjected that person to unwanted physical contact. Calvetti was remanded to Yates County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail or $4,000 fully secured bond. He will appear in Jerusalem Town Court.

Shea R. Bedient, 21, 3975 State Route 5 & 20, Lot 52, Canandaigua, was charged with third degree AUO and speeding on Culhane Road in the Town of Benton  on March 8. When Bedient was stopped for the traffic infraction, a license check revealed he had a suspended license. He was arrested, arraigned in Town of Benton and released. He will answer the charges at a later date.

Eric G. Starnes, 43, 515 Assembly Ave., Keuka Park, was charged with second degree criminal contempt and second degree aggravated harassment on March 9. Starnes turned himself in to Yates County Sheriffs Deputies at the Yates County Probation Department after a warrant was issued stemming from an incident on March 8 involving a Town of Benton resident. The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Milo Court and remanded to the custody of the Yates County Jail in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Benton Court.
