A worker at P&C Grocery store on Liberty Street was injured at about 9:30 a.m. March 21 when she was pinned by a large storeroom cart in the store’s bakery.

Penn Yan Police officer Steve Hill reports Rose Hayes of 107 Monell St., Penn Yan had been working in a large walk-in cooler when a 30 lb. box of product fell off a storage cart and landed against her chest, pinning her between the cart and a wall. Another store employee assisted in removing the box and freeing her.

Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Penn Yan Fire Department responded to the incident.

Becausse Hayes was complaining of chest pain and was having difficulty breathing, she was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by Mercy Flight.

P&C Grocery officials would not comment on Hayes’s condition on Monday, March 23 and she was no longer listed as a patient at Strong Memorial Hospital.
