Angelene M. Leberth, 27, of 887 Voak Road, Penn Yan, was arrested July 20 for endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief (fourth degree). The charges were a result of a domestic violence incident with her live-in boyfriend, during which she allegedly endangered his 2year-old child. Leberth was arraigned in Potter Town Court and released to answer charges at a later date.

The Dresden Fire Department and Deputy Randy Andrews responded to the report of a stove fire at 77 Charles St. in Dresden on July 21. The cottage is owned by Joseph Grossman, 62, of 3008 Rush-Mendon Road, Honeoye Falls and was occupied by renter Richard Borek, 63, of 102 Shelby Ct., Simpsonville, S.C.  The cause of the fire was in the stove’s electrical wiring.  The occupants extinguished the fire prior to the arrival of emergency services. No one was injured and damage was limited to the stove. The Village of Dresden code enforcement officer was called to the scene.

Samantha M. Bergman, 38, of 35  Gilbert St., Rushville, was arrested on July 22 for aggravated unlicensed operation (AUO), DWI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Bergman was driving her vehicle on State Route 245 near Caywood Cross Road when she lost control, exiting the road on the East side, striking several delineators. The vehicle crossed over the road and struck a guardrail on the west side of the road and then went back across the road coming to rest in the ditch. Bergman left the scene in a second vehicle. She was stopped south of Rushville by Yates County deputies. Bergman was taken to F.F.Thompson Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident.  She will answer charges in Middlesex Town Court.

Jeremiah D. Young, 34, of 12006 Wissie Road, Prattsburgh, was arrested July 24 for AUO and having an inadequate plate lamp. Young was stopped for the traffic infraction on Darby’s Corners Road. A computer check revealed he had a suspended license. He was arraigned in Jerusalem Town Court and remanded to Yates County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail. Young will answer charges at a later date.

Jamie Landcastle, 75, of 24 Gilbert St., Rushville, was charged with reckless endangerment and reckless driving on July 22. Landcastle allegedly drove his vehicle over a curb, coming to stop within feet of a Rushville man who was on a lawn mower. He then allegedly exited his vehicle and began to yell at the operator of the lawn mower.

Joseph M. Kelly, 17, of 8085 State Route 245, Naples, was charged with speed not reasonable and prudent and failure to keep right following an accident on July 24.  Kelly was traveling north on the Italy Valley Road when his vehicle went off the shoulder of the road, causing him to lose control. The vehicle then crossed to the other side of the road, went into a field and rolled over, coming to rest after striking a telephone pole. Kelly sustained head and neck injuries.  A passenger, Alexander M. Priestman, 18, of 2778 Steeples Road, Fort Steele, British Columbia, sustained bruises and contusions to his head and chest. Both were transported to S&S Hospital by Naples Ambulance for treatment.

John W. Brewster Jr., 18, of 2540 Bath Road, Penn Yan was arrested on July 25 for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (third degree). criminal mischief (fourth degree), attempted assault (third degree) and petit larceny. Brewster was picked up on a warrant in the city of Hornell that stemmed from a domestic incident that occurred in the Town of Jerusalem. He was arraigned in Jerusalem Town Court and remanded to the Yates County Jail in lieu of $3,000 cash bail.  He will answer charges in Jerusalem Court.

Glenn R. Owen, 26, of Cook School Road, Prattsburgh, was charged with speeding, uninspected vehicle, DWI (Class A misdemeanor) and AUO ( Class E felony).  Owen was stopped on July 26 by Deputy Ken Kamholtz on State Route 14A south of Second Milo for speeding. His vehicle was uninspected. A computer check showed his license privilege was suspended pending the prosecution of a DWI in Ontario County. He was found to be intoxicated at the time of the traffic stop and was taken to the Yates County Public Safety Building, where he refused a breath test. Owen was arraigned in Milo Town Court and placed in Yates County Jail in lieu of $2500 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for this week in Milo Court.

Charles J. Bakogiannis, 42, of 354 Washington St., Geneva, was arrested on July 26 for speeding and AUO (third degree).  He was stopped on State Route 14 in the Town of Torrey for speeding. A computer check revealed his license was suspended for failure to answer a summons out of Cayuga County. He was taken into custody and arraigned in Starkey Town Court and will answer charges in Torrey Court.
