Update: Saturday weather advisory

The Yates County Sheriff's Department reports a National Weather Service lake effect snow advisory for Yates County is in effect until 10 p.m. tonight, with 1 to 3 inches of snow expected along with winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 40 mph.

Earlier, the sheriff's department issued an advisory about very slippery and snow-covered roads combined with blowing and drifting snow. Motorists should turn on lights, reduce speed and use caution if traveling.

A high wind warning continues until 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the Yates County Sheriff's Department.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a high wind warning for the upper Finger Lakes, greater Syracuse area and southern Tug Hill Plateau.

West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts between 50 and 60 mph will subside Saturday evening. Significant damage to trees and power lines, along with widespread power outages are.

Temperatures will remain in the 20s through much of the day Saturday.
