Flood watch today, winter weather watch Sunday

State Sen. Tom O'Mara

The Yates County Sheriff's Department advises that the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Watch for Yates County for Sunday afternoon and into the night. There is a possibility of  7 inches or more of snow  by Monday morning.

A flood watch remains in effect from this afternoon through Sunday evening across the Southern Tier, Central New York and Southern Finger Lakes region. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain is expected from late Saturday into Sunday. In addition, around an inch of runoff from snowmelt is forecast. The combination could lead to flooding along rivers, streams and creeks.  Ice jams and poor drainage could cause flooding in some low-lying or urban areas.
