Flood Watch Thursday morning through Friday evening

The Yates County Sheriff's Department is advising that a flood watch for Yates County will be in effect from Thursday morning through Friday evening. One to three inches of rainfall, combined with melting snow could lead to flooding, according to the advisory.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, the potential exists for significant flooding in the Finger Lakes region, Oswego River Basin and Upper Mohawk River Basin and their tributaries. The potential exists for major flash flooding on smaller streams and creeks, poor drainage and low-lying areas.

A flood watch means there is the potential for flooding on rivers, small streams, creeks, poor drainage, urban and low- lying areas based on current forecasts.
