Two women in Strong after accident on Rte. 54

Accident scene at Rte. 54 and Pre-emption Road just east of Penn Yan in the town of Benton.

A two-car accident at the intersection of Pre-emption Road and Rte. 54 just east of Penn Yan occurred Sunday afternoon. Yates County Sheriff's Deputies, Penn Yan Fire Dept. and Ambulance Corps, and Medic 55 responded immediately to the scene.

Arlene Semesky, 57, of 1400 Maple Ave., Elmira was traveling south on Pre-emption, but upon entering the intersection with Rte. 54, failed to yield the right of way to Catherine Campbell, 22, of 72 Main St., Dresden, who was traveling east on that highway, and struck Semesky's vehicle on the passenger's side.

Arlene Semesky and her passenger Marlene Semesky, 57, of 915 Sullivan St., Elmira,  were airlifted via Mercy Flight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where they are both listed in guarded condition. Campbell was transported to Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital for treatment of shoulder pain, and released.
