Student Art Show begins Friday

Penn?Yan Studio Art students (from left) Tayler Knapp, Siobhan Donohue, Peter Tomlinson and Kayli Harling with their paintings, will be among those participating in this year’s Scholasitic Art Show at Yates County Arts Center.

Middle school and high school  art students and parents from Marcus Whitman, Dundee and Penn Yan will be celebrating the art work that will be displayed  Friday, March 18 through April 9 at the Annual Student Art Show at the Yates County Arts Center 119 East Elm St,  Penn Yan. 

The public is invited to the opening awards reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday  March 18.

Judges for the show this year will be Phyllis Maciag, Dusti Rhoades and Bonnie Barney, all artists in the YCAC’s gallery.  Susan Harris, Executive Director, will also join this team.  

The Yates County Student Art Show started 25 years ago by PYA teacher Tom Kneeland and it was held at the Oliver House for two years.  Penn Yan Middle School teacher Bob Gillespie moved the show to the YCAC gallery, the organization that has made this opportunity possible for the last 23 years.

YCAC members, parents and teachers. The last two years the Dundee, Marcus Whitman and Penn Yan Teachers Associations have donated the money for the prizes and  refreshments.
