PYA students installed in National Honor Society

Fourteen Penn Yan Academy students were inducted into the National Honor Society in an induction ceremony on May 23 at the academy.

The new members are Reid Castner, Benjamin Falter, Courtney Matulewicz, Lilia Scheel, Leah Swarthout, Siyeon Choi, Rachel Gaston, Sean Murphy, Zachary Schillaci, Michael Thiesmeyer, Nicholas Coriale, Mallory Knapp, Jonah Pielow and Carolyn Smith.

The 2010-2011 officers are President Chelsea Travis, Vice President Hannah Zelazny, Treasurer Dan Burdette and Secretary Lindsay Simpson.

The induction ceremony included remarks by Howard Dennis, associate superintendent for instruction, and Penn Yan Academy Principal David Pullen.

Chelsea Travis explained the history and purpose of the National Honor Society, and explained the emblem and symbolism of the candle lighting portion of the ceremony.

The officers conducted the candle lighting ceremony and the members took the pledge.
