Here is her essay:

"What the United States Flag Means To Me"

The United States Flag reminds me of all the freedoms and victories

we have had in the past and present in our country. It is a symbol of our

growing and changing country and a symbol of all the people of the United

States. It is a symbol of our past, present and future. I have not really ever

thought of the significance of the American Flag until now. Now, I see how

interesting our country's flag is. It reminds me to stand up for what I believe

in. It reminds me that we are not perfect People make mistakes. That does

not mean to give up. Our country did not give up hope in trying to make

slavery abolished. Our country fought through jail, prison and even death,

but that did not discourage our country's believers. Our flag is very special

and important for our country. We should all honor our country's flag.

The United States Flag is a good way to remind everyone that we are

a country. We have no specific religion we have to follow. We can practice

whatever religious beliefs we want We haye-the freedom of choice, the

freedom of speech, the freedom to raise our lives or children's lives however

we want, what schools we want to go to, what church, what career path we

want to take and what college we would like to go to. The American Flag is

a very important reminder of our freedom.

There are many reminders on the American Flag. The stars on the

flag remind me of all the fifty states. The thirteen stripes remind me of the

thirteen colonies. The blue on the flag reminds me of all the things we've

lost The white is a reminder to me of all the victories we have received in

the past. The red reminds me of all the blood in the wars we have fought

and how many thousands, millions of people died and sacrificed their lives

for our country. When I think of them it makes me sad,, yet grateful. It is

hard to imagine what our country would be like without the sacrifices of the

good, loyal Americans. When I think of the hard work our country has

battled it reminds me not to throw, drop, or ruin in anyway, the American

Flag. If I do, I will make sure to destroy that flag the proper way.

America has had many struggles and victories. We are always

growing. I am reminded of how proud I am to be an American, and how we

all should be when we see me American Flag.
