The Penn Yan and Dundee Central Schools are working on a plan to share  food service director. At last week’s regular meeting, the Penn Yan School Board unanimously approved a memorandum of agreement between the two districts and the Penn Yan Administrative and Technical/Managerial Association that sets the process in motion.

Superintendent David Hamilton says the change will take effect July 1, and Penn Yan Food Service Director Dana Burton will begin serving both districts.

Hamilton says the arrangement will save the Penn Yan District alone $20,000. It’s not clear what the anticipated savings will be in Dundee.

There are other possible opportunities for sharing between the districts. Hamilton says there may be a way to share physical therapy services as well as some advanced instruction.

Other items on the board’s agenda May 16 included:

• Recognized retirees: The board recognized the following employees, listed with their role and employment date: Larry Anderson, science teacher since September 2004; Sheryl Case, special education teacher since September 1986; Deb Covert, teacher aide since March 1995; Irka Elsivier, science teacher since September 1998; Rita Manley, elementary teacher since 1986; Phyllis Record, director of transportation since July 1978.

• Calendar changes: May 25 will be a holiday and June 20 will be the last day for students (half day).
