Yates County Sheriff Ronald Spike has issued the following boating safety advisory following today's heavy rains:
"With the heavy rains today many creeks and gullies that empty into Keuka Lake have washed assorted debris into the lake and they can be a floating hazard to navigation. Boaters are cautioned to be observant of floating tree limbs, logs, stumps, and misc. debris in the water. The Marine Patrol is reporting a large quantity of debris floating in the lake at this time.
"This is a reminder that NYS Navigation Law on Keuka Lake limits speed to no more than 5 mph within 200 feet of shore. Any hidden obstructions are likely to be within that distance."
Report emergencies to 911.
