Yates County will be working with Schuyler, Steuben, and Tioga Counties and Southern Tier Network (STN) to complete a broadband feasibility study which is expected to determine specific broadband connectivity needs in the four counties.

Steve Manning of STN told legislators the study, to be completed by Fujitsu Broadband, should begin in mid-February and a draft report should be complete by June.

STN will cover 50% of the cost, and Yates County’s contribution will be no more than $50,000. The study will enable the counties to make regional, unified decisions to address insufficient access to broadband services in the region, according to the resolution.

Other business at the first regular meeting of 2020 included:

• SALES TAX RECEIPTS: Acting County Administrator Nonie Flynn reported that the last 2019 sales tax dispersement was received, bringing the total for the year to $13.6 million, $900,000 more than 2018’s receipts, and $1.4 million over budget estimates. She said the increased revenue is likely due to Internet Sales Tax revenue.
