Legislature deserves a salute

To the Editor:

As many of you are aware, I have not been on our County Legislator’s Christmas card list for several years now. I do not know, but maybe it had something to do with my outspoken criticism of their spending spree that mushroomed our annual County costs by more than $4,000,000.00 in just three years from 2005-2007.

In a recent letter to the editor I stated that if Yates County could contain their budget to the annual “cost of living” index or below I would be the first to congratulate them.

Well, they have managed to do far better than I could ever have imagined with a 2008 budget increase of a little over a half million dollars or 1.4% over 2007 expenditures.

Although, I believe, they are working from a highly bloated platform to begin with; I congratulate them for finally showing a great deal of fiscal restraint at a time when Lord knows our citizens need it.

Now lets hope their hard work in representing their constituent’s wares off on our Penn Yan School Board when they work on a budget this coming year.

Happy New Year to all.
