Letter to the Editor: How to help Amish widow

To the Penn Yan community: It has been almost a month and a half since the horrific accident on Pre-Emption Road that led to the death of six people from the Amish Community in Steuben County.

I have personally witnessed the tremendous suffering this accident has brought to these families.

As it is customary of people in this area,  there’s a group in Yates County leading an effort to help the only widow of the accident — a 36- year-old woman who suffered severe injuries, with seven children under her care. She lost her husband,  her only sister and her brother in-law.  The local effort is to help her acquire a greenhouse, which will be her primary income.

We are hoping that the community could get involved to see that we reach this fundraising goal and we can provide her with a future for her family. The donations are being directed to Marvin and MaryAnn Martin 2644 Havens Corners Rd. Penn Yan NY 14527.
