Penn Yan Lady Mustangs are red hot

The Penn Yan Mustang girls basketball team seems to like the month of January.

Since the Christmas break, the Orange and Blue have been playing their best basketball. 

Last week Penn Yan picked up two more Finger Lakes East wins with victories over Finger Lakes East, Division I opponents Geneva and Wayne.

On Wednesday evening in Penn Yan, the Distaff Mustangs rolled to a big 64-55 win over the Geneva Panthers.  The third quarter was the pivotal eight minutes of the game for Penn Yan.  They outscored the visitors 19-6 to take control of the game.  The win was Penn Yan’s second league win in eight tries.  They improved their overall record to 6-7.

Katelyn Sloan notched 17 points including eight in the 3rd quarter to lead Penn Yan.  Defensively, she also provided five steals.  Haley Milam added 13 points and hauled down eight rebounds.  Elly Disbrow chipped in 11 points, five assists, and five steals.

The Lady Mustangs continued to enjoy home-cooking on Friday evening with a 50-39 win over Division I Wayne in Penn Yan.  The Lady Mustangs enjoyed a three point advantage at the half and dominated the fourth quarter 19-8 to come away with the big win.

Katelyn Sloan had a huge game for the Orange and Blue with 22 points and 12 rebounds.  Emily Simpson picked up 10 points, canning eight of nine from the chariy stripe and hauling down seven rebounds.  Haley Milam added eight points and 12 rebounds.  Penn Yan’s record improves to 3 - 6 in the league, 7-7 overall.
