Dundee Scots headed for a showdown with HAC

The red-hot Dundee Scots Boys Basketball team defeated Red Jacket 52-48 in the Section V class C semi-final game played at the New York?Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls Monday, Feb. 25.

In a nip-and-tuck contest which saw both teams holding leads, Dundee hit some key baskets and free throws late in the game to pull out the win. Red Jacket led by three points with a minute left in the contest when Senior Brent Ayers hit a big 3-pointer to tie the game at 47. Rocky Martini canned two huge free throws and Ayers drained another 3-pointer with seconds left, to clinch the victory.

This was the third time the two teams have met this season. They had split the first two games with Red Jacket winning a thrilling 54-52 game in overtime the last time they played. Dundee won the rubber match, which sends them to the championship game

Ayers led the Scots in scoring with 16 points. He also had eight rebounds. Martini added 14 points. Gerard Conyers pulled down 11 rebounds and Mason Brown had four assists.

Dundee will face arch-rival Harley-Allendale-Columbia on Friday, Feb. 29 at Blue Cross Arena at 5:15 p.m. Dundee lost to HAC?two times this season, finishing in second place behind them in the Finger Lakes West League.

If the third time is a charm, the Scots could bring home a Class C title.

To advance to the semi-final game, the Scots defeated Geneseo 59-55 in Dundee on Feb. 22.  

In a game that was closely contested throughout, Dundee made some solid defensive plays in the waning seconds to hang for the four point win. 

With the game tied after three quarters, the Scotsmen edged ahead by three points with just seconds left in the game. 

Martini blocked a game -tying attempt and Justin Schenck sank a free throw to ensure the win.  Schenck was also stellar on defense, drawing five charging fouls to keep the Geneseo offense in check. 

Offensively, Ayers paced the number two seed Scotsmen on offense with 16 points, half of his point production came in the critical fourth quarter. 

Conyers added 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.  Besides his defensive heroics, Justin Schenck delivered 12 points, nine in the final stanza and also grabbed five rebounds. The Scots reached this second round game by defeating Pavilion at Red Jacket High School on Tuesday evening.  Dundee led from the opening tip-off and never looked back.  They were paced by Ayers with 16 points.
