Lady Mustangs defeat Victor in OT to avenge earlier loss

The Penn Yan Mustang Girl's Lacrosse team avenged an early season loss to Victor with a thrilling 14-12 win in the second overtime period. 

The Penn Yan girls jumped to a quick 6-0 lead in the first half on a damp late Friday afternoon in Penn Yan.  They increased their lead to 8-1 before Victor made a first half run to cut the Mustang lead to 8-5 at the half.

The Blue Devils fought back to tie the game at 11 after regulation time ran out.

Penn Yan grabbed a one goal lead in the first overtime.  Chelsea Treat netted two goals in the second overtime to clinch the victory.

The offensive star of the day for Penn Yan was Chelsea Treat with seven goals, including the two game winners in overtime.  Morgan Basler added 4 goals, Sam Sisson 3 goals and 1 assist.  Meredyth Mc Michael handed out 2 assists and Courtney Hey 1 assist.  Meg Hopkins made 2 saves in the 1st half and Margaret Maslyn 4 saves in the second half.  Hopkins returned to stop 3 shots in the overtime stanzas.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Mustangs traveled to Waterloo for a contest at Tom Coughlin Field.  Penn Yan defeated the Division II leading Indians 12-8.  With the two league wins last week, Penn Yan improved their record to 7-2 in the Finger Lakes League.  They are 7-3 overall.

The Marcus Whitman Girl's Lacrosse team continued their winning ways with three big wins last week.

On Monday in Palmyra, the Wildcats hammered Pal-Mac 15-4.  Whitman put the game away in the first half racing to a 8-1 lead.  The balanced Whitman scoring parade was led by Megan Robeson with 2 goals and 2 assists.  Jessica Dean netted 3 goals, Kara Lyon 2 goals and an assist, Danielle Turner 2 goals, Bri Dunton 1 goal and 2 assists and Kara Horn 1 goal and 1 assist. 

Also scoring for Whitman were Katelyn Airth, Katie Barnett with 2 goals, and Jame Gulvin with 1 goal.  Katie Capiello had 7 saves in goal.

On Friday at home, the high scoring Wildcats continued to pile up the wins with a convincing 17-3 win over Mynderse.

Bri Dunton had 4 goals, Jessica Dean 3 goals, Megan Robeson 2 goals, and Kara Lyon 3 goals led the way offensively for the Wildcats.  Rachel Northrup, Kalie Barnett, Kara Horn, Brooke Neal, and Jamie Gulvin also scored goals.  Gulvin chipped in an assist.

Whitman completed their trifecta with a big 12-9 non-league win over Webster Schroeder on Saturday. 

The Lady Wildcats sealed the deal outscoring Webster 5-2 in the second half. Bri Dunton scored one goal and had 5 assists for Whitman.  Hannah Barnett scored 4 goals, Jessica Dean 3 goals, Rachel Northrup, and Megan Robeson 2 goals each for Marcus Whitman. 

Katie Capiello stopped 8 shots for Whitman in goal.  The Lady Wildcats improved their overall record to 8-3.  They are 6-2 in the Finger Lakes Division II League.
