Mustangs drop three games, Scots win two, fall to Whitman

The Penn Yan Mustang Baseball team suffered a disappointing week, dropping three close games to Finger Lakes East opponents.

CANANDAIGUA 2

On Monday afternoon at the Elm Street Field in Penn Yan, the Orange and Blue lost a tough 2-1 decision to Canandaigua. 

The Braves broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the sixth inning to capture the win. The Mustangs could manage only two hits in the afternoon.  Mustang hurlers Brent Johnson and Tim Eckerson held the Braves to just 3 hits, just enough to close the win.

On Wednesday afternoon the local nine traveled to Victor but returned with the same results. Penn Yan jumped ahead 3-0 early in the game, but the hometown Blue Devils fought back to take 4-3 decision.  Cody Allison had a 2 run single to lead Penn Yan. 

Ron Burd was the hard luck loser on the mound. He held Victor to just 6 hits on the afternoon.

MIDLAKES 4

On Friday afternoon, the Mustangs battled the Midlakes Screaming Eagles for first place in the Finger Lakes East Division II League.  The host Eagles downed Penn yan 4-1 to take sole possession of first place in the league.  Lucas Golden went 3 for 3 including a double for Penn Yan.  Kyle Barkley delivered two hits including a double.

The Mustang's season record slipped to 4-5 in the league and 6-8 overall.  They trail Midlakes and Mynderse in the Finger Lakes East D-II race with a game remaining with each of these opponents.

In other local high school baseball action last week, Dundee defeated Romulus 8-3 on Monday afternoon in Dundee. 

The Scotsmen turned a 3-2 deficit into a 8-3 win scoring 6 runs in the fifth and sixth innings.  Rocky Martini was the winning pitcher for Dundee. He also had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Blaine Moore had 2 hits and 2 stolen bases.  Mike Uvanni chipped a couple of singles in the win.

On Tuesday afternoon, Marcus Whitman traveled to Dundee for a non-league tilt with the Scotsmen.

The Wildcats scored 8 runs in the 5th inning to grab a 12-7 victory over Dundee.  The Marcus Whitman offense was sparked by a 3 run homerun by Greg Foster.

Jeremy Armison had 3 hits for Whitman. Brent Ayers clubbed a 3 run homer for the Scots. Trevor Andrews was the winning pitcher.  Cody Gilbert was charged with the loss.

On Thursday afternoon at McDonough Park in Geneva, DeSales scored the winning run in the 8th inning on a sacrifice fly to defeat Dundee 2-1. 

Scotsman pitching ace Rocky Martini tossed a 4 hitter but took the hard luck loss.  Kyle Spinks had two of the three Dundee hits.

The Dundee Scotsmen clipped South Seneca 15-10.  Brent Ayers had a big 2 run triple to pace Dundee. Kyle Spinks was the winning pitcher. He also delivered 2 hits on offense.

H-A-C 10

The Dundee Scotsmen Baseball team defeated Harley Allendale Columbia on Saturday 11-10. 

The Scotsmen jumped ahead 11-3 early in the game but the Wolves scored 7 runs to pull within one run.  Dundee's Brent Ayers recorded the final out with the tying run on third base and the winning run on second base.  Gerry Naylor had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs for Dundee.

On Friday afternoon in Bloomfield, Marcus Whitman improved their season record to 9-2 with a 8-0 whitewashing of the Bloomfield Bombers. Jeremy Armison had a double and single for the Wildcats. Greg Foster added 2 hits.
