Scots edge Wildcats 50-45 in OT to win tournament

The Dundee Scotsmen Cagers outscored the Marcus Whitman Wildcats 8-3 in the overtime stanza to win the championship game of their own tournament 50-45.  But getting to the overtime period was the most difficult and exciting part of the game for the Scotsmen. 

Dundee trailed by 7 points with 1:40 left in regulation.  The Scots stormed back to tie the game in the last minute. 

But Marcus Whitman regained the lead on two free throws by Cal Andrews. 

Dundee once again tied the score with 1.4 seconds left in regulation after Justin Schenck sank two charity throws sending the game to overtime. At that point, Dundee took over to secure the win. 

Justin Schenck was Dundee's leading scorer with 14 points. Ryan Schenck added 9 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Ryan Ballard chipped in 9 points.

Whitman was led by Tyler Stell's 19 points.  Cal Andrews tossed in 18 points for the Wildcat cagers.

The Scotsmen reached Saturday's championship game with Whitman by hammering Hammondsport 63-31 on Friday night in the opening round of the tournament. 

The Scotsmen cagers jumped to a 33-15 halftime lead and cruised to the easy 63-31 win over the Lakers from Hammondsport. 

Ryan Schenck and Dylan Hastings scored 13 points each to pace the Maroon and White hoopsters.  Ryan Ballard and Joe Tortolon both added 7 points for Dundee.

Marcus Whitman reached the championship round with a 63-50 win over Romulus  Friday night. The Wildcats jumped off to a 16-6 lead after one quarter and led the rest of the way. 

Stell tallied 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Wildcat attack. Andrews added 14 points and Jamie Murphy 10 points to the Wildcat's winning cause.  Andrews drained two 3-pointers for Whitman.

Dundee jumps out to a 2-0 record in the young 2008-9 basketball season.  Marcus Whitman falls to 1-1.
