Mustangs gain split in Wellsville Duals; Wildcats win two

The Penn Yan Mustang Wrestling team defeated Bishop Kearney 42-36 on Saturday at the Wellsville Duals to gain a split for the weekend.

The Orange and Blue Grapplers scored a big win on the strength of pins by Taylor Miller in the 135 lbs. match and Robert Galusha in the 215 lbs. class. The Penn Yan team was also aided by five forfeits by Kearney.

The host Wellsville team downed the local wrestlers 50-28.

Penn Yan gained points by a major 17-7 decision by Eric Jameson in the 125 lbs. match.  Miles Snyder won his match by pinning his opponent in the 130 lbs. match.  Taylor Miller (135 lbs.) also won by pin.

The Mustangs improved their season record to 1-2 in the young season. They are 0-2 in the league.

Wildcats defeat Lyons, Marion

The Whitman Wrestling team captured two wins last week.

On Monday, the Wildcats downed Lyons 36-28 in a non-league match in Lyons. Curtis Stokes won the only contested winning match for Whitman with a pin at 171 lbs.

On Thursday, Whitman downed Marion 33-30 in Rushville. Louie Perrica’s 1-0 decision win at 171 lbs. broke a 30-30 tie and propelled the Wildcats to the mat win.

Jesse Rosato won by fall at 135 lbs. Jeff Clark (140) and Dakota Robarge (160 lbs.) picked up wins by decision.
