The Penn Yan Mustang Girls Basketball team extended their winning streak to two games with a 42-33 win over Waterloo on Monday evening in Penn Yan.

This league win was played at the Penn Yan Elementary School gym and was a makeup of a game postponed from Dec. 17.  The Lady Mustangs outscored their Seneca County guests 36-24 after three quarters and eased to the Finger Lakes East victory.

Katelyn Sloan was the Lady Mustang’s offensive leader with 13 points.

She also added three assists. Rachel Roddenbery added 7 points and also pulled down 6 rebounds.

The Penn Yan defense bottled up the Lady Indians effectively all game and certainly helped to key the Orange and Blue offensive.

The Lady Mustangs are beginning to find their stride and will be a force in the Finger Lakes East as the New Year begins.

With the win, Penn Yan improved their 2008-’09 season record to 2-2.

They are 2-1 in the Finger Lakes East D-II.  The Penn Yan girls will play in the North Rose-Wolcott Tournament this coming week.

They will play a make-up league game against Midlakes on Jan. 7 in Phelps.

The month of January could be very interesting for the up and coming Lady Mustang cagers.
