Penn Yan Boys Tennis off to strong start
The Penn Yan Mustang Boys Tennis team fired the first successful volley of the 2009 local spring high school season. The Mustang netsmen garnered two wins last week to jump out to a quick 2-0 record.
On Wednesday, the Mustangs downed Bloomfield 4-1. Nathan Travis scored a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 2 singles match to open the scoring for the Mustangs. Teammate Bryan Hill won 12 straight games to take the No. 3 singles match.
In the doubles matches, Penn Yan's Robert Ross and Eric Jameson won their match 6-0, 6-1. David Burdette and Kris Erskine also captured the No. 2 doubles match with wins of 6-0 and 6-2.
On Friday afternoon at home, the Mustangs ran their early season record to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over the Mynderse Blue Devils. The Mustangs swept the singles matches. Dan Spencer won 6-2, 6-1; Nathan Travis 6-3, 6-4; and Bryan Hill 6-1, 6-1.
The doubles team of Robert Ross and Eric Jameson picked a win for the Orange and Blue 6-2, 6-2. The No. 2 Mustang doubles duo of David Burdette and Kris Erskine won their opening game 6-4, but dropped the next two to the Blue Devils.
The Mustang Tennis crew jumps out to a quick 2-0 record in the young 2009 season. In other local Boys Tennis action, Marcus Whitman dropped a 5-0 decision to Midlakes on Wednesday afternoon.
