Mustangs defeat Midlakes 2-1 in regular season finale

PENN?YAN?— The Penn Yan Mustang Boy’s soccer team will be entering this week’s Section V Tournament with the “BIG MO” on their side. 

The Orange and Blue Kickers concluded their regular season on a high note with a thrilling 2-1 win over Midlakes in Penn Yan on Tuesday evening.

Michael Hawley scored the game winner on a set-up from Kyle Meyers with just 5 minutes left. 

The late game Mustang heroics sent the Senior’s Day game crowd to the exits happy. 

Michael Johnson opened the scoring for Penn Yan at the 19th minute. 

Ben Dinehart picked up an assist on this goal.  Matt MacKerchar stopped six shots in goal to preserve the big win. 

Beside the positive winning atmosphere, the game also featured an exhibition game at halftime by the Yates County Youth Soccer League. 

It was a nice evening for everyone.  With the Section V Tournament on the immediate horizon, the win in the season finale was especially sweet for the hometown Mustangs (4-11-1,4-9-1).


 In other local boy’s soccer action, Bloomfield defeated Dundee 9-1 on Tuesday.  Jake Wilmott tallied the lone Scotman goal.  On a positive note, Dundee’s Owen Maloy was named the Birdseye Food Section V Class D Palyer of the Week #7. 

He scored five goals in games that week for Dundee (2-14,0-12).

Marcus Whitman

Also Marcus Whitman downed Waterloo 3-1 in their regular season finale in Gorham on Tuesday afternoon.

Perry Mortensen scored two goals and Jimmy DiMartino one for Whitman.  Matt Hey registered two assists.  Jake Chard stopped 11 shots for Whitman (7-9,5-9).
