Mustangs dominate Elba/Byron-Bergen 32-14 in Connors Ferris Bowl

The Penn Yan Gridiron Mustangs offense was firing on all cylinders on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the Connors Ferris Tournament. 

The Orange and Blue registered their second win of the season with an impresssive 32-14 drubbing of Elba/Byron Bergen. 

Penn Yan quarterback Scott Miller had a fine afternoon passing.  He completed 16 of 30 passesfor 180 yards and connected for two touchdowns. 

Adam Stork opened up the scoring on a 60 -yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter.  Anthony Luppino grabbed a pass from Miller for the 2-point conversion and the ‘Stangs quickly led 8-0.

Senior Adam Trombley galloped 50 yards for a T.D. later in the opening period. 

Trombley had an impressive day running the football.  He rushed for 100 yards on eight carries. 

Adam Stork scored his second touchdown of the game in the second quarter.  Stork hauled in a 10-yard pass from Scott Miller and headed for paydirt.  This extended Penn Yan’s lead to 20-0.

Elba/Byron-Bergen scored the next two touchdowns to narrow the Penn Yan lead to 20-14. 

But Anthony Luppino squelched any more thoughts of a hometeam comeback by scoring on a 10 yard pass from Miller to give the Mustangs a 27-14 lead. 

Luppino caught four passes for 17 yards in the game. 

Nate Nichols scored the final Mustang touchdown of the afternoon.  He grabbed a 7-yard scoring strike in the 4th quarter.  Penn Yan’s margin grew to 32-14 and they secured their second win of the season.

The Mustangs will play their final game of the 2009 season at 7 p.m. Friday here in Penn Yan.  Their opponent will be Batavia.
