The Penn Yan Mustang baseball team finally had a chance to take the field after weathering some unpleasant early spring conditions.  The Mustang nine opened their 2011 season with three wins.

Penn Yan 15          Pal-Mac 3

The Mustangs traveled to Palmyra to take on Finger Lakes East foe Pal-Mac on Friday afternoon.  The Orange and Blue kicked off their 2011 season in a positive fashion with a convincing 15-3 win over the Red Raiders.

Penn Yan jumped off to a quick 6-0 lead before Pal-Mac scored their three runs to narrow the gap to 6-3.

Penn Yan pulled away in the final four innings to register the opening day win.

Elliott Eckerson picked up the win on the hill, tossing a 3-hitter and striking out nine Red Raider batters.  He also helped himself with his bat.  Eckerson clubbed a home run to help spark the Penn Yan offense.  Dylan Force added two hits.  Mike Johnson scored four of Penn Yan’s 15 runs.

Penn Yan 28            Marcus Whitman 6

The following day, the Mustang diamond forces journeyed to the hamlet of Gorham to play the Wildcats of Whitman.  Saturday proved to be a day made for hitting for the young Mustangs as they rolled over the Wildcats 28-6.  Penn Yan scored runs in every inning except the 4th enroute to the easy , early season win.  Dylan Force was indeed a force in this contest for the hammering Mustangs.  He went 6-for-6, scored four runs, and drove in three runs to propel the Orange and Blue to the win offensively.  If that wasn’t enough, he also picked up the win on the mound tossing a 3-hitter and striking out nine.  A complete day for Mr. Force for sure.  Alex Eddinger had three hits for Marcus Whitman and drove in two of their three runs.
